Hyundai IONIQ V
Beijing Hyundai has officially filed the IONIQ V with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Positioned as the debut model for the localized IONIQ sub-brand, the IONIQ V is built on the proven E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) but tailored specifically with “Global Quality + Chinese Wisdom” in mind.
Futuristic Design: Led by Hyundai China Design Center
The IONIQ V breaks away from global IONIQ 5/6 styling, featuring a design language led entirely by the Hyundai China Design Center.
- Dimensions: A mid-size sedan with a length of 4,900mm, a width of 1,890mm, and a substantial 2,900mm wheelbase.
- Aesthetics: The “Dimensional Light Blade” split headlight system and “Dimensional Star Track” taillights give it a sharp, futuristic silhouette.
- Premium Touches: The vehicle features frameless doors and “V-Motion” low-drag wheels to optimize aerodynamic efficiency.
Intelligent Cockpit: Powered by Baidu and ByteDance
The IONIQ V aims to lead the “smart car” race in China by integrating local tech giants’ ecosystems:
- Display: A massive 27-inch ultra-thin 4K integrated screen dominates the “Nebula Wraparound” interior.
- AI & Interactivity: It features Baidu’s Ernie Bot (Wenxin) for advanced generative AI interaction and ByteDance’s Volcano Engine for content ecosystem support.
- Hardware: Powered by flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon cockpit chips and Momenta’s autonomous driving solutions, supported by a “Cyber Eye” AR-HUD.
Performance: 800V Ultra-Fast Charging and CATL Power
Despite being an entry into the mid-size segment, Hyundai has not compromised on charging speed:
- 800V Architecture: The IONIQ V supports high-voltage ultra-fast charging, a feature typically reserved for premium EVs.
- Battery: Equipped with LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries from CATL, ensuring safety and cost-efficiency.
- Motor Options: Two single-motor rear-wheel-drive configurations will be available:
- Standard: 140 kW (188 hp)
- High Performance: 168 kW (225 hp)
- Top Speed: Electronically limited to 165 km/h.
Market Outlook
The IONIQ V represents Hyundai’s strategic pivot in China—combining its world-class E-GMP hardware with the software intelligence of China’s leading tech firms. As a localized competitor to the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal, the IONIQ V’s 800V platform could be its biggest “trump card.”
