Hongqi, the premium marque of FAW Group, has officially announced that the updated Hongqi H5 and HQ9 will hit the market on May 20, 2026. This mid-cycle refresh focuses heavily on interior digitalization and aesthetic refinement to better compete in the rapidly evolving New Energy Vehicle (NEV) and luxury segments.
1. The New Hongqi H5: Mini-H9 Aesthetics and Modernized Cockpit
The Hongqi H5 has long been a favorite in the executive sedan market. For 2026, it receives a “facelift” that brings it closer to the flagship H9.
Exterior & Hardware Refinements
- Sharper Design: The front fascia is now cleaner, removing complex chrome accents. The DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) and main headlights have been sharpened for a more aggressive, high-end look.
- Premium Footwear: The new H5 now comes equipped with Michelin tires for improved ride comfort and performance.
- Rear Lighting: While the taillight shape remains, the internal LED signature has been redesigned for a more sophisticated light-and-shadow effect.
Interior Revolution
The biggest change is the complete abandonment of the vertical screen.
- Floating Dual-Screen: A new horizontal floating center screen paired with a floating digital instrument cluster creates a much cleaner, tech-focused vibe.
- Column Shifter: Moving to a column-mounted gear shifter (stalk) has freed up significant space in the center console for storage and wireless charging.
Powertrain: Efficiency Meets Performance
While the 1.5T and 2.0T ICE versions remain, the H5 PHEV is the highlight for NEV enthusiasts:
- PHEV System: 1.5T engine (110kW) + Electric Motor (168kW).
- Range: Two battery options offering 130km or 170km (CLTC) of pure electric range.
- Efficiency: WLTC fuel consumption as low as 4.5L/100km when the battery is depleted.
2. The New Hongqi HQ9: The Luxury MPV Gets a Tech Boost
Following its showcase at the Beijing Auto Show, the new HQ9—Hongqi’s flagship MPV—is ready for its commercial launch.

The HQ9 maintains its iconic “waterfall” grille and massive dimensions (5222mm length, 3200mm wheelbase), ensuring it remains a dominant presence in the luxury MPV market.
All-New Intelligent Cockpit
The interior has been overhauled to provide a “First-Class” experience:
- Dual Integrated Screens: A massive dual-screen setup now stretches across the dashboard, including a dedicated passenger entertainment display.
- Rear Seat Luxury: The second row features independent executive seats with individual control screens, folding tables, and high-resolution overhead displays.
Performance & Battery Technology
The HQ9 PHEV version is tailored for long-distance luxury travel:
- New Battery Tech: Transitioning to a 39.5kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery.
- Electric Range: Offers 168km to 173km of pure electric driving.
- Hybrid Power: Powered by a 2.0T engine-based plug-in system, delivering smooth, quiet, and efficient power delivery.
