TANK 700 Long Wheelbase
The TANK 700, GWM’s rugged luxury flagship, recently hit the market with a price range of 428,000 to 508,000 RMB. However, with the TANK 800 still absent from the lineup, there remains a gap for a full-size, extended-wheelbase SUV. Recent spy shots of a TANK 700 Long-Wheelbase (LWB) prototype suggest that TANK is ready to fill that void and redefine the high-end off-road segment.
Visual Continuity with a Stretch
From the leaked images, the test mule retains the aggressive design language of the new TANK 700. The iconic sporty black front grille remains, ensuring high brand recognition.
The real story, however, is on the side profile. The body section behind the C-pillar has been significantly elongated, and the rear wheels have been shifted backward to accommodate a longer wheelbase. While the current prototype shows slightly awkward proportions—likely due to it being an early-stage chassis testing rig—it confirms that TANK is developing a platform far more spacious than the standard model.
Interior Layout: Five Seats or Three Rows?
Inside, the prototype mirrors the existing TANK 700’s premium cockpit, maintaining the same layout for the center console and physical controls.
Interestingly, while the wheelbase has grown, the test vehicle currently retains a 5-seat configuration, resulting in a massive increase in trunk capacity. Industry analysts speculate that the final production version will likely offer a three-row seating option. This would make it a formidable competitor for long-distance overlanding and family expeditions, balancing passenger comfort with flexible storage.
The Powerhouse: 4.0T V8 PHEV System
The most exciting aspect of this long-wheelbase flagship lies under the hood. To handle the increased weight and dimensions, the vehicle is expected to feature Great Wall Motor’s (GWM) self-developed 4.0T V8 twin-turbo engine paired with a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) system.
Potential Performance Specs:
- Combined Power: 782 hp
- Combined Torque: 1,000 Nm
- Chassis: Equipped with advanced air suspension for adjustable ride height and off-road articulation.
This powertrain ensures that despite its “behemoth” size, the TANK 700 LWB will offer effortless acceleration and superior off-road capability, meeting the demands of high-end NEV buyers who refuse to compromise on power.
Market Outlook
As the New Energy Vehicle market shifts toward “lifestyle+performance,” an extended TANK 700 with V8 hybrid power positions TANK to compete with global icons like the Land Rover Defender 130 and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
Stay tuned as we track the development of this flagship SUV.
