Volkswagen ID.Polo
The legendary Polo is entering a new era. On April 29, 2026, Volkswagen officially released the first global images and specifications of the ID.Polo. This all-electric compact car promises to combine the brand’s heritage with future-proof technology, starting at an accessible price of €24,995 (approx. $26,800).
A “Pure Positive” Design Philosophy
The ID.Polo is the first production model to adopt the new “Pure Positive” design language under Chief Designer Andreas Mindt.
- Timeless Aesthetics: The vehicle maintains classic Volkswagen proportions, featuring a C-pillar design inspired by the first-generation Golf.
- Compact yet Bold: Measuring 4,053mm in length with a 2,600mm wheelbase, it retains its “small car” maneuverability while gaining a much more muscular stance.
- Advanced Lighting: High-end trims feature IQ.LIGHT LED Matrix headlights and an illuminated VW logo, adding a high-tech signature to its friendly face.
MEB+ Platform: Massive Space in a Small Package
Thanks to the MEB+ dedicated EV platform, the ID.Polo offers significantly more interior room than its ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) predecessor.
- Trunk Capacity: The boot space has grown by 25%, reaching 441 liters (up from 351L). With rear seats folded, it expands to a massive 1,240 liters.
- Tech-Forward Cockpit: The interior features a 13-inch Innovision Infotainment touch-screen paired with a 10-inch digital cockpit.
- Retro Modernism: A unique “Retro Display” mode allows drivers to replicate the visual style of the classic MK1 Golf instruments.
Performance, Battery, and Range
Volkswagen offers the ID.Polo in three power outputs to suit different urban and long-distance needs:
| Battery Type | Capacity (Net) | Range (WLTP) | Power Output | DC Fast Charge (10-80%) |
| LFP (Iron Phosphate) | 37 kWh | Up to 329 km | 85kW / 99kW | ~23 Minutes |
| NMC (Lithium) | 52 kWh | Up to 454 km | 155kW (211 hp) | ~24 Minutes |
Key Feature: Vehicle-to-Load (V2L)
Every ID.Polo comes standard with V2L technology, supporting up to 3.6kW of power output. This allows owners to power camping gear, electric bikes, or home appliances directly from the car’s charging port.
Trim Levels and Features
- Trend (Entry-level): Includes 90kW DC fast charging, Lane Assist, 13-inch infotainment, and LED headlights.
- Life (Mid-range): Adds Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), wireless smartphone charging, and a rearview camera.
- Style (Top-tier): Features the IQ.LIGHT system, 3D LED taillights, heated sports seats, and the upgraded ID.Light system with door-opening warnings.
Editor’s Note: With the ID.Polo, Volkswagen is bringing premium features—like Harman Kardon 425W audio and 12-way pneumatic massage seats—into the compact segment, making it a serious contender for the best value EV of 2026.
