Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5
Fang Cheng Bao, the personalized NEV (New Energy Vehicle) brand under BYD, has officially expanded its off-road SUV lineup with the launch of the Bao 5 Tianshen Max Edition.
The new variant comes with an official price tag of 259,800 RMB (approx. $36,000 USD). However, Fang Cheng Bao is offering a limited-time promotional price of 253,800 RMB, alongside attractive financial incentives including a 0% down payment option, 3-year interest-free financing, and up to 30,000 RMB in trade-in subsidies for loyal owners.
Price and Key Performance Differences
Positioned above the currently available Tianshen Smart Driving Max variant, the new Tianshen Max Edition costs an additional 20,000 RMB. For this premium, buyers receive significant upgrades in driving range and fuel efficiency:
- Extended Pure Electric Range: The CLTC pure EV range has been significantly boosted from 125 km to 210 km.
- Improved Fuel Economy: The WLTC fuel consumption under low battery charge (cold state) dropped from 8.85L/100km to 8.43L/100km.
Interior and Comfort Features: Whatโs New?
The Tianshen Max Edition reshuffles its comfort and infotainment package to cater to premium buyers:
- Tech Enhancements: A new 12.3-inch passenger entertainment screen has been added to the dashboard, complementing an upgraded 18-speaker audio system (up from 16 speakers).
- Cabin Comfort: The front seats now feature a massage function, and an on-board refrigerator is included for off-road road trips. Active ambient lighting has also been integrated.
- Adjustments: To balance the upgrades, rear-row seat heating/ventilation and rear privacy glass have been removed from this specific trim.
Safety and Camera Configurations
In terms of safety, the airbag configuration has been re-engineered. While the rear side airbags and driverโs knee airbag have been removed, a new front-row center airbag has been added to prevent passenger-to-passenger collisions. Additionally, the vehicle features a slightly reduced number of surround-view cameras compared to the Smart Driving version.
Robust PHEV Powertrain
Under the hood, the Bao 5 Tianshen Max Edition retains its formidable off-road capabilities powered by the DMO hybrid platform:
- Powertrain: 1.5T Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) system with dual front and rear electric motors.
- Performance: A combined output of 505 kW (approx. 677 hp) and a massive 760 Nm of torque.
- Battery Pack: Equipped with a 47.8 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery, enabling the extended 210 km EV range.
Final Thoughts
With a longer electric range and practical lifestyle additions like the built-in fridge and passenger screen, the Tianshen Max Edition offers a compelling middle-ground for off-road enthusiasts who want fewer autonomous driving sensors but better everyday hybrid usability.
