Audi e-tron recall 2026
FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. has announced a significant recall affecting both imported and locally produced Audi e-tron electric vehicles in China. The recall, filed with the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), addresses a potential mechanical failure in the braking system that could compromise vehicle safety.
Recall Breakdown: Is Your Audi e-tron Affected? (H2)
The recall involves a total of 2,769 vehicles across two specific categories:
| Vehicle Origin | Production Period | Units Affected |
| Imported Audi e-tron | August 7, 2019 – October 21, 2021 | 647 |
| China-made Audi e-tron | July 6, 2020 – June 20, 2023 | 2,122 |
Note: This action is an expansion of a previous recall initiated on September 14, 2024.
The Safety Risk: Brake Booster Connection Failure (H2)
According to the official filing, a manufacturing deviation led to a critical vulnerability in the brake assembly.
The threaded connection between the brake pedal and the brake booster pushrod may loosen over time. If this occurs, drivers may experience:
- Increased Brake Pedal Travel: The pedal may feel “spongy” or require more effort to engage.
- Complete Disconnection: In extreme cases, the pushrod could detach entirely, leading to a significant loss of braking performance and increasing the risk of a collision.
The Fix: Free Inspection and Repair (H2)
Starting May 18, 2026, FAW-Volkswagen will coordinate through authorized Audi dealers to provide the following free services:
- Inspection: Technicians will check the torque and condition of the brake booster pushrod connection.
- Tightening: If the connection is intact, it will be tightened to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
- Replacement: If the pushrod has already detached or is damaged beyond repair, the entire brake booster unit will be replaced with a new one at no cost to the owner.
How to Contact Audi Support (H2)
Audi will notify affected owners via registered mail and SMS. However, owners of Audi e-tron models produced within the specified dates are encouraged to take proactive steps:
- Customer Hotline: Call FAW-Volkswagen Audi at 400-817-1666.
- Official Website: Visit the SAMR Defect Product Recovery Center (www.samrdprc.org.cn) for further details.
Our Expert Take (H3):
The Audi e-tron was one of the early pioneers in the luxury EV market. While mechanical recalls are common, issues related to the braking system should be treated with the highest priority. If you notice any change in your pedal’s resistance or travel distance, we recommend parking the vehicle and contacting a service center immediately.
