Mercedes-Benz G580 EV Recall
Mercedes-Benz (China) Automotive Sales Co., Ltd. has officially filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR). The recall targets the newly launched Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology (the all-electric G-Wagon) due to potential safety hazards involving wheel stability.
Recall Details (H2):
- Recall ID: S2026M0051V
- Effective Date: Starting May 6, 2026
- Affected Models: Imported Mercedes-Benz G580 full-electric vehicles.
- Production Dates: Vehicles manufactured between February 9, 2024, and October 14, 2024.
- Total Volume: 217 units in the Chinese market.
The Issue: Why is the Electric G-Class Being Recalled? (H2) According to the official statement, the affected vehicles may suffer from insufficient robustness of the wheel bolts.
The investigation found that if the wheels are repeatedly disassembled and reinstalled, and the vehicle is driven in extreme conditions (such as intense off-roading or high-speed maneuvers), the wheel bolts may loosen. This could lead to:
- Reduced driving stability.
- Increased risk of wheel detachment or collisions.
- Potential safety hazards for occupants and other road users.
The Solution: What Should Owners Do? (H2) Mercedes-Benz has committed to resolving this issue free of charge. Authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers will perform the following service:
- Replacement: All original wheel bolts will be replaced with improved, high-strength bolts.
- Notification: Affected owners will be notified via registered mail.
Expert Insight for EV Buyers (H2): As the G580 is one of the most anticipated luxury EVs of 2024-2025, this recall highlights the challenges manufacturers face with the increased weight and torque of electric drivetrains. If you own an imported G580, we recommend contacting your local dealer immediately to verify your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).
